Congratulations Letter

The letter a Scout receives after an Eagle Scout board of review recommends them, explaining what happens between the board and the Eagle credentials.

Print one congratulations letter for each final-board Scout. The board members sign it after the review and the Scout keeps it. It sets expectations about the wait for credentials and the timing of the court of honor.

Congratulations, you have successfully completed your Eagle Board of Review and the Board has recommended you for the rank of Eagle. The [district name] Advancement Committee congratulates you on this milestone.

Your Eagle Scout Rank Application will be certified by the council Scout executive and validated by Scouting America’s National Council, which issues your Eagle Scout credentials. Please be aware that your Board has recommended you be awarded the rank of Eagle, but the credentials are not final until that process is complete. Our [district name] Advancement Chair will notify your Scoutmaster or parents upon final approval — normal time frame is typically [four to six weeks].

[Describe any district or council recognition, for example: You will be invited to an upcoming roundtable meeting to be recognized for your Eagle award, and our council honors new Eagle Scouts each year with a banquet in your honor.]

You may begin preparations for your Eagle Court of Honor, but we suggest scheduling it no less than [six weeks] from the date of your Board of Review. The Guide to Advancement provides that “The Eagle Scout medal or patch must not be sold or otherwise provided to any unit or to the Scout, nor should the court of honor be scheduled until after the Scout executive has signed the application, certifying proper procedures were followed, the rank has been entered into the system and filed locally, and the certificate is received at the council service center.”
