# After the Event

> Returning the signed applications and reference letters to the council, and what happens between the board and the Eagle Scout credentials.

## Return the paperwork to the council

From the *Guide to Advancement*: "If a board of review approves a candidate,
the signed application, reference letters, and any information that might
be considered confidential are returned to the local council."

Get the physical applications to your council service center promptly.

The day after the event, the district advancement chair either mails the applications to
the Jefferson Service Center or gives them to a District Executive to take
to the office at the next Friday staff meeting.

## Credential processing

From the *Guide to Advancement*:

> At the council, the Scout executive signs the application, certifying
> proper procedures were followed. The application is then entered into the
> Scouting America system and filed locally.

> National validates all applications received. Then the National
> Distribution Center generates the credentials and prints, packages, and
> mails the certificate, pocket card, and congratulatory letter to the
> council.

"Upon receipt of the Eagle credentials, council service center personnel
should alert unit leadership immediately." Until then, remind families not
to schedule the court of honor too soon: "The Eagle Scout medal or patch
must not be sold or otherwise provided to any unit or to the Scout, nor
should the court of honor be scheduled until after the Scout executive has
signed the application, certifying proper procedures were followed, the
rank has been entered into the system and filed locally, and the
certificate is received at the council service center."

"The board of review date—not that of a subsequent court of honor—becomes
the rank's effective date."

## Keep a record

Note who was reviewed, the outcome, and who sat on each board. The
[scheduler software](../scheduler/) writes this to a dated folder of CSV
files automatically. Those files contain personal information about minors,
so keep them private and off shared or cloud-synced drives.
